Have been doing this for a number of years and it does keep the house sparrows off the feeders. Nuthatches, goldfinches, siskins and other birds ignore the wire. Before, they were always present - 2-3 at at time and would spend (it seemed) hours at a time just hanging out at the feeder. This really does seem to work.
